PARK LAWN DOG DAYCARE

Etobicoke, Canada
2018-2019

Interior fit-out of an existing retail space, this project is designed and built for an emerging dog services company. A joint venture design-build job with Karma Sustainable Design, the project is 5000 SF dog daycare, spa and shop on Park Lawn Avenue in south Etobicoke, Toronto.

Designed according to dog-centric principals, the architecture reflects the ambitions of the client, creating a holistic centre for well-being of the dogs, customers and staff. The new space aims to make a positive contribution through serving the immediate community as well as Humber Bay neighbourhood.

The space is split into two programmatic zones: retail and dog area. The two zones are separated by a full-height animated glass screen allowing visual connectivity while forming a secured zone for dog area. Ground floor offers double-height retail and reception, daycare and grooming. Upper floor accommodates office, kitchenette and space for future dog training extension overlooking lower level retail space. A refurbished staircase connects the two levels within the secured dog area.

Materials and finishes are carefully selected to last the business life cycle. Utilizing durable and dog friendly materials as well as low maintenance finishes was the main strategy in the design process to lower the operating cost.
